Rape Seed Solvent Extraction Plant

Home > Blog >

Rape seed is also known as rape, oilseed rape, rapa, rappi, rapaseed (and in the case of one particular group of cultivars, canola) is a bright yellow flowering member of the family Brassicaceae. Rape seed is much more durable than other oilseeds as it can withstand spring frost. It has a relatively low hull content and has an oil content of approximately 40-45% oil.

Rapeseed oil is widely used as cooking oil and in many parts of the worlde for deep frying. The meal obtained after extraction can be used as animal feed with the exception of poultry due to its high protein content. Processing of rapeseed for oil production provides rapeseed animal meal as a by-product. The by-product is a high-protein animal feed, competitive with soya.[citation needed] The feed is mostly employed for cattle feeding, but also for pigs and chickens (though less valuable for these). The meal has a very low content of the glucosinolates responsible for metabolism disruption in cattle and pigs.

Steps of Rape Seed Solvent Extraction Plant

Rape seed solvent extraction plant or you can say canola seed solvent extraction plant is just one of the most representative solvent extraction plant for oil seeds. There are some steps you should follow in the  if you want to get quality canola or rape seed oil.

Rape Seeds Preparation:The rape seeds are firstly ground up coarsely and heated slightly to break down oil viscosity and preliminarily expel some excess moisture. It will also compromise the integrity of the cellular walls of the seed, which will make the next step of de-hulling much easier.

De-hulling:  De-hulling can occur at this step. This is mainly separation of the shell from the interior "meat" of the seed. The de-hulling process begins with exposing the seeds to temperatures in excess of 200 degrees F. The seeds will then be ground again under elevated temperatures, and run under a constant stream of water to fully separate the hulls.

Screw Pressing: The de-hulled rapeseed meats are then squeezed using a screw press, usually under elevated temperatures, to extract the crude rapeseed oil. At that point, the oil can be de-gummed, filtered, and sold as rapeseed oil. There is one final step involved to make true canola oil.

Euricic Acid Removal: The main difference between rapeseed oil and canola oil is the level of euricic acid. This acid is in fact a bit toxic to humans in high doses. It's that fact that led to canola oil's development. The euricic acid can be removed by steam stripping some fatty acids from the rapeseed oil, or it can be done chemically by using an alkali treatment to neutralize the acid.
